That darn T.J. Maxx is a dangerous store---for me at least! I never seem to make it past the jewelry counter. Unfortunately for me, the handbags, jewelry and perfumes are all in the same area, so there's no way that I can pass one without seeing the other! Oh the things that a girl has to endure! Most often I can escape the handbag area without anything, but never the jewelry!

You know how it is this time of year---the jewelry cases are stuffed with so much more, to entice those weaklings like myself. Well at least I'm not paying full price! Anyhoo, I found some things that I just had to have. They're updated pieces, so I'm good with it. If you like Gorjana jewelry, check your local store, or tjmaxx.com---there's a pretty good variety. Gorjana White Stone + 18kt Gold Plated Attached Bracelet + Ring

I picked this up at T.J. Maxx yesterday, and couldn't be more pleased. There are so many styles out there right now, but I wanted a simple, quality piece. A couple of weeks ago, I featured a similar style by Gorjana (at tjmaxx.com for $19.99) that I also liked, but this one appealed to me more because of the rhinestone accents. Both are available at saksoff5th.com, marked down from $90 to $39.99.

I also ran across this in T.J. Maxx as well. I love the fact that it's a bit more "fitted" than the usual bangle. When layering, they pretty much stay in place. One side bears the inital, and the other side reads "One In A Million." While this particular one is sold out online, shopbop.com has one that's pretty much the same.

Last Sunday, Dillards offered an additional 50% off previously reduced items, and this bag called my name. It's always a must, that I inject some color into my wardrobe. Actually, I've never really cared too much for a plaid shirt. They're a fall/winter staple for most retail stores, but I'd never bought one. I recently purchased one from New York + Company (see it a further down) that I really like. for me, it's not about the trend, but the versatility of the piece itself. While a casual look with jeans and boots is good, I also like a jazzed up look. Olivia Palermo and Peony Lim's outfits are the best illustrations of the latter.

I especially love the way that Peony's pieces are layered. A great bag, and a hot shoe---that's the ticket! I also Like Mary Kate Olsen's look---the half tucked hem and layered necklaces is instant chic.

As this year careens to an end, what better time to look back on some of this years hottest designer pieces and trends.

Handbags were big news this year, starting with Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. Once desire waned, we saw a new star emerge, as Chloe's Drew took the number one spot. In need of a gray coat, I chose this one from JCP. It's a really nice quality, and fits well. I caught it on a day when they were offering online specials.

Adam Lippes for Target Mohair Fringe Poncho - Red Plaid

I actually thought that all of these were sold out online, but I looked last week and all sizes are available. While I've tried other ponchos, this one works best for me. Some are cut on the wide side---I find those with a sort of straight cut more flattering. For me, it's really not about the trend, I just love a good functional piece.

I don't know where I would find unique jewelry (reasonably priced) if it were not for T.J. Maxx. When it comes to the best quality for the money, I don't look anywhere else. This band is one of my "new" favorites.

I could see that happening. Once "christened" by one among the "fashion set," it's sure to be a hit! I must admit though, it's a cutie.

Simon Miller is quickly becoming a cult label amongst the fashion community. Launched in 2008, the brand began with menswear, but last year branched out to include its first women's wear collection. With a focus on Japanese fabrication and classic American construction, their aesthetic is very much of the moment—think chic, simply designed pieces that when you wear them, look as if you haven't tried at all, but are easily the coolest girl walking down the street.

In keeping with their ability to create lust-worthy items that seem to show up almost instantaneously on every It-girl's Instagram (cue Kate Foley, above), the brand has debuted its very first line of adorable bucket bags, complete with silver ring handles. Albeit tiny in size (they're a little larger than the palm of your hand), they're big on style, and are available in four different fabrications and colors. We're considering one as the newest addition to our Christmas wish list. (Harpers Bazaar)

I'm pretty traditional when it comes to choosing lipstick. I love a good moisturizing gloss and lip color in the basic shades. I don't care for the way that a matte lipstick looks on me, so I stick with those with a hint of shine. I don't have any one brand that I prefer over another, I just buy what works. While they can look good on others, I steer clear of all the of-the-moment shades----blue, green, purple, black and that metallic gold that's so hot.

Allure Magazine shares a variety of lip colors to suit every taste.

OMBRE

Two-tone lips look lush and full, and this beautiful version relies on a classic combination of red-based hues, so it's daring without being too out-there.

CHERRY RED

This deep, dramatic hue was actually created using a sheer gloss. "There's no lipstick or liner here, just layer upon layer of dark gloss," says makeup artist Lucia Pica. "That's why this intense color still has a transparent element." If you're layering on a ton of gloss, Pica suggests keeping each layer thin and blotting at any globs with a tissue to even everything out.

And for anyone hoping to follow in her footsteps (lip prints?), look for a shade that has a tiny hint of red or purple in it—that'll prevent you from looking like an extra who just wandered off the set of Twilight.

If you need extra incentive for wearing a slightly cooler, blue-based red lip color, like the one Janelle Monae's completely rocking here, keep in mind that it can also help your teeth look whiter. (Seriously, how toothpaste-commercial bright do hers look?)

When gifting, I prefer to give gift cards to a person's favorite store, or a Visa or Mastercard of the same. It's important to me that everyone is pleased and happy. I too like a gift card. There are usually so many things swirling in my head that I would like, so I find that the best option. I try to satisfy needs first (that doesn't always happen!), then get those kind of frivolous things which are just fun. I really try to stock up on my perfume favorites while so many gift sets are available. I love the fact that many of the sets now include a rollerball fragrance---they're so much easier to drop into your purse without taking up a lot of space.

I do favor shopping the department stores this time of year. Great deals abound as "competition" is tough. I've featured items from my favorites.

While shopping for others this time of year, it's a must that you pick up a few things for yourself!

What's not to love about this boot! I ran across these online last Friday, and was so disappointed to find that my size was sold out. While I like the other color (see below), I really needed the black. I went into the store on Saturday not expecting to find either color, but there was one 9.5 left. You should know that I grabbed that box and headed to the register with a quickness!

Love, love, love this bag! The gold hardware and detailing caught my eye right off. It has a zip pocket under the flap, one inside and one on the back. There are also credit card slots inside. I love it so much, that I'm picking up the black one as well.

Best Dressed 2015: My Two Picks

This has definitely been one of the best years in fashion. We witnessed the style evolution of a hand full of celebrities and models who are on the rise. Dubbed the new guard, or fashion's breakout stars, we saw the likes of Zendaya Coleman, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid take on grown-up looks and win.

The one person that I found to be most stylishly consistent, on the red carpet and off, is Kendall Jenner. Whether striding through the airport, or out for a day of shopping, she continually nailed it! Her looks were sleek and chic, without overwhelming her slender frame. My second pick, is her friend Gigi Hadid. With a penchant for cropped tops and over-the-knee boots, she too captured our attention with her brand of style. Her coats and jackets are perfection!

Per an article in Harper's Bazaar, the woman responsible for many of their looks, is stylist Monica Rose (see her below with Gigi Hadid). Hats off to Monica for perfecting outfits that look fresh without being too trendy.

I must also give a shout out to a few of my perennial favorites----Solange, Olivia Palermo and Victoria Beckham.

As the new year begins, the who's who of designer brands are back to claim their spot for the seasons ahead. The lace-up trend is back, by way of the wedge sandal and ballet flat. Sky-high platform sandals are also in the forefront, along with the ever popular "it"sneaker. While Adidas reigns supreme, Golden Goose is offering a variety of distressed styles sure to catch the eye of many a fashion lover.

Net-a-porter put together a list of some items which they deem "the thing,"for the upcoming season. To that, I've added accessories from Chloé, Gucci, and more.

THE GAME CHANGER:

Loewe’s V Bucket bag

Thanks to the wizardry of
J.W.Anderson, Loewe is fast becoming
the go-to brand for cult bags, this season adding the V Bucket bag to
the feted Puzzle. These aren’t one-
season-and-they’re-over designs, though; they are future heirlooms, pieces that feel modern, but which you’ll be as excited to carry in a decade as you are now.

for proof. It’s at its best paired
with polished pieces, so try layering yours over mid-length skirts or dresses.

THE NAME TO KNOW:

Martiniano

After a couple of seasons bubbling under the radar, the glove shoe – that low-heeled, elasticated
leather slip-on that teeters on the
edge of ugly – is about to have its moment, and Martiniano is who you’ll want to buy yours from. The Argentinian label, founded in 2011 by pop star Martiniano Lopez Crozet (one half of performance-
art duo Los Super Elegantes), is carving out a niche with
minimalist, modern shoes
handcrafted in Buenos Aires.
Will they divide opinion? Probably. Will you love them anyway? Without a doubt.

Sadly, yes. Visions of winter boots are swirling in my head. After hearing this morning's forecast of snow in the coming days, I'm reminded that need to replace a pair that I've held on to for far too long. Ah yes, the clearance sales are in full swing! My favorite store (T.J. Maxx) has one of the best. Yesterday (Jan 8th) marked the start of their "yellow tag" clearance, in-store. It applies to all merchandise, but as usual I didn't get past the jewelry counter! I ran across this fabulous watch from Lacoste, which is something that I really need. It was a "steal" at $69, as it retails for $315.
